Quantity Surveyor (12-Month Contract)
Our client, a well-established mining operation in Karibib, Namibia, is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their team on a 12-month contract. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing project costs, administering contracts, and supporting the delivery of mining infrastructure and capital projects. The position will be based in Karibib, with the mine site located approximately 10 km from town. This opportunity is ideal for a technically strong professional with proven mining industry exposure who thrives in a site-based project environment.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with at least 3 years within the mining or heavy industrial sector.
- Proven exposure to mining infrastructure, earthworks, plant construction, or similar large-scale industrial projects.
- Strong understanding of contract management principles (experience with **FIDIC contracts will be advantageous).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MS Office.
- Experience using cost management or project management systems.
- Ability to work in a site-based mining environment.
- Professional registration with a recognized body such as Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or an equivalent professional body will be advantageous.
Roles and Responsibilities: Contract Administration
- Manage and administer construction and service contracts in accordance with project and company requirements.
- Assess and process contractor payment certificates and claims.
- Prepare, track, and manage variations, change orders, and contractual documentation.
- Support contract negotiations with subcontractors and suppliers.
Project Cost Control
- Monitor project expenditure and ensure costs remain aligned with approved budgets.
- Identify cost risks and deviations and provide recommendations for corrective action.
- Compile detailed cost reports and financial updates for management and project stakeholders.
- Assist with forecasting and financial planning for project activities.
Procurement & Tender Support
- Assist in the preparation of tender documentation, scopes of work, and bills of quantities.
- Participate in tender evaluations and provide commercial input.
- Support procurement activities to ensure alignment with project budgets and timelines.
Project Coordination & Compliance
- Work closely with engineers, project managers, and site teams to ensure commercial alignment.
- Conduct site measurements and valuations to verify work completed.
- Ensure project activities comply with contractual, regulatory, and company requirements.
- Support internal reviews, financial audits, and cost verification processes where required.
