Quantity Surveyor

Downer New Zealand currently has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join or team in Wellington. This role is responsible for the contractual and financial administration of our projects, including quality, health, and safety-related disciplines.

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will work closely with Project Managers and the Commercial Manager to ensure a no-surprises approach to applying a sound commercial strategy across all project operations. This role involves managing contractual and financial aspects, handling client and stakeholder interactions, and proactively identifying potential financial risks. 

Key responsibilities include: 

• Providing commercial, contractual and risk management knowledge to improve project performance;

• Managing the contractual and financial aspects by applying a consistent and strategic commercial approach to project operations following Downer’s policies; 

• Ensuring sound financial and business practices are applied to all project operations consistent with company policies, procedures and business systems;

• Promoting consistency and accuracy with regards to forecasting, cash flow and predictability of project outcomes.

• Process accurate and timely financial reporting, ensuring compliance with company policies

• Promote a culture of responsibility and accountability for health and safety

You’ll bring with you proven experience working in a civil construction/maintenance environment, with site experience. We’d value the following skills and experience: 

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Financial and commercial acumen

• A QS: NZCQS or NZCE, National Diploma or equivalent

• Fully conversant with all aspects of contractual management, interim and final progress payments, measurement, record keeping, contract variations and the like.

• The ability to work under pressure in a fully integrated team environment;
