Job Description

We are currently seeking a qualified Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join our site-based Construction team. This role is responsible for the review, analysis, verification, and maintenance of Mechanical (Piping, Ventilation, Equipment) or Electrical & Instrumentation installation quantities. You will work closely with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction teams to support accurate scope quantification and cost forecasting across a range of Mining, Energy, and Infrastructure projects. You will have the opportunity to work on the Hatch and Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After successfully completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, the HBJV is currently carrying out the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $5.3-5.7 Billion this will represent one of the largest projects and private investments in Canada. The HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems as well as the proven HBJV suite of tools to execute this exciting project.

 * Please note this position is not eligible for a relocation subsidy or living out allowance. This will be a camp position on a 14 day on 7 days off rotation. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze engineering drawings, documents, and 3D models to verify installation quantities.
  • Identify and reconcile differences between offsite (modular) and onsite scopes.
  • Break down scope by Construction Work Areas and execution packages.
  • Interface with subcontractors to review and agree on package quantities and scope changes.
  • Maintain up-to-date cost forecasts and support valuation and schedule adjustments.
  • Perform quantity take-offs from 2D drawings, isometrics, and models at varying levels of design maturity.
  • Identify gaps between engineering deliverables and required installation quantities.
  • Maintain audit trails of quantity revisions due to engineering changes or field conditions.
  • Participate in site meetings and present findings with clear documentation of assumptions and qualifications.
  • Audit projects to ensure accuracy of quantified scope.

 

    Qualifications

    • Education & Certification:

      • Technical diploma, construction trade certification, or Gold Seal Estimator designation or Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) designation from CIQS or equivalent (e.g., MRICS, CEC)
      • Continuing professional development in Estimating, Quantity Surveying, or Project Controls.
    • Experience:
      • 6–12 years in estimating or project controls, with site-based experience in heavy industrial construction.
      • Proven expertise in either process piping and mechanical equipment or electrical and instrumentation disciplines.
      • Experience in stakeholder management.
    • Technical Skills:
      • Proficient in Excel, Navisworks, BlueBeam, SmartPlant, and Power BI.
      • Skilled in quantity take-offs from construction documents of varying maturity.
      • Strong oral and written communication skills for reporting and stakeholder engagement.
