Title – Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Reports to – Senior Quantity Surveyor

Job Overview:

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to start or develop a career in quantity surveying within the construction industry. As a Trainee QS, you will support the commercial team in managing costs, preparing estimates, preparing subcontract and consultant orders and ensuring projects are delivered within budget.

You will gain hands-on experience across a range of projects, working closely with experienced professionals while receiving training and support to develop your skills and progress towards a professional qualification (e.g. RICS or CIOB).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing subcontract and consultant order documents.
  • Assist in preparing estimates, cost plans, and tender documents.
  • Support the measurement and valuation of works (on-site and from drawings).
  • Help monitor project costs and variations.
  • Assist with subcontractor procurement and management, including issuing enquiries, comparing quotes, and preparing orders.
  • Attend site meetings and liaise with site teams and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records and assist in producing reports for senior QS/commercial manager.
  • Work towards professional qualifications and undertake relevant training.

Essential requirements:

  • Strong interest in construction and commercial management.
  • Good numerical and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • Full UK driving licence (if required for site travel).

Desirable requiremets:

  • Studying towards (or completed) a relevant qualification (e.g., HNC/HND, BSc in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or similar).
  • Previous work experience in construction or a commercial role (e.g., through a placement or apprenticeship).
