Vertical Recruitment is working in close partnership with a well-established, independent construction consultancy to appoint an Associate Quantity Surveyor. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor ready to step up, or an existing Associate looking to accelerate their journey toward Directorship within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.


The business is continuing to grow its public sector portfolio and is known for delivering intelligent, client-focused solutions across nationally significant Ministry of Defence, government, police, fire service and broader public sector infrastructure projects. The Role

This Associate-level position plays a key leadership role in the cost consultancy team, supporting the successful delivery of complex, high-profile defence and public sector projects. The successful candidate will help shape strategic direction, drive commercial outcomes and mentor the next generation of quantity surveyors. A clear and achievable route to Project Director is available for the right person.


Key Responsibilities

  • Estimating and cost planning, producing feasibility studies and detailed cost plans from minimal design information
  • Preparation of tender documentation and managing procurement processes
  • Interfacing with clients, consultants, and key stakeholders to maintain strong relationships throughout the project lifecycle
  • Monitoring project costs, risks, and progress in relation to programme and budget
  • Working according to agreed technical approaches and quality standards
  • Performing all RICS core competencies and QS-specific competencies
  • Participating in APC training, including supervisor roles and mentoring candidates, where appropriate
  • Leading client liaison and business development initiatives
  • Attending internal management and business development meetings
  • Delivering capital projects on time and to budget
  • Assisting in the delivery of the business plan and driving initiatives to achieve company goals
  • Maintaining close relationships with key existing clients, addressing any concerns to sustain high satisfaction levels


Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related field
  • Chartered status (MRICS preferred)
  • Extensive professional experience within a consultancy environment
  • Proven ability to lead projects in a client-facing role
  • Experience working on medium to large-scale projects across multiple sectors, ideally including defence and public infrastructure
