The Opportunity

BlueScope Building Components is looking for a Commercial Manager VIC/TAS to join the team based in Lyndhurst VIC. BlueScope Building Components, a division of BlueScope in Australia, manufactures and markets steel building products, solutions and services through its four leading brands: Lysaght, Fielders, Ranbuild and Kiteleys.

Reporting to the State Manager and working closely with the National Manager Finance, you will look beyond just the numbers and build a broad business understanding to deliver meaningful commercial insights and advice with a strategic, big picture perspective.

What Will You Do?

Leading a small team and working collaboratively with leaders across the business, including the national commercial team, you will:

• maximise commercial performance: partner with the State Manager to develop and implement strategies to enhance EBIT and optimise the balance sheet aligned to business objectives
• oversee compliance and risk management: ensure effective financial controls and governance are embedded
• foster a high-performing team: lead and mentor the state commercial team, delivering superior financial and commercial reporting, analysis and advice to internal customers
• navigate across organisational boundaries: develop collaborative relationships with the business and grow your understanding across all functions - support in delivering a pipeline of “Needle moving” projects
• drive innovation and different ways of thinking: monitor the internal and external environment to identify improvement opportunities and new technologies

More About You

We’re looking for a motivated professional with extensive finance and commercial experience. You will bring:

• a tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or Commerce
• an understanding of how different businesses operate beyond financial data where you can influence commercial strategy and decisions
• demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and mentor a small team
• proven success in identifying and driving improvement initiatives that have had significant commercial outcomes
• the ability to proactively engage and influence your key customers and build strong relationships throughout the business
• ability to turnaround tasks and actions to meet required deadlines
