Introduction

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Estimator/Quantity Surveyor to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of civil works, with the ability to accurately price tenders and carry out site measurements for valuations. This is a site-based role, and applicants must be willing to travel and work at various project locations across the country as required.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Cost Estimation & Budgeting:

  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects (tender and pre-tender stages).
  • Develop budgets based on architectural drawings, specifications, and scope of works.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to estimate materials, time, and labour costs.

Tendering & Procurement:

  • Prepare and Price tender documentation and assist with bid evaluation processes.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors for pricing and quotations.
  • Analyse and compare supplier and subcontractor bids to ensure cost-effectiveness.

Contract Administration:

  • Draft and review contracts and subcontractor agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual terms and industry regulations (JBCC, NEC, FIDIC, etc.).
  • Monitor contract variations and manage change orders.

Cost Control & Reporting:

  • Track project costs and conduct cost value reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Prepare regular financial reports and cash flow forecasts.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and prevent cost overruns.

Site Measurement & Valuations:

  • Conduct site visits for progress measurement and validation of quantities.
  • Prepare interim valuations for client billing and subcontractor payments.
  • Ensure accurate measurement and recording of work completed on-site.

Risk Management & Compliance:

  • Identify potential financial and contractual risks early in the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide professional advice on commercial and contractual matters.
  • Attend project meetings and provide cost-related input and updates.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
  • 3+ years of experience in quantity surveying and/or estimating (preferably within the civils construction industry).
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, or similar estimating software.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of local construction laws, building regulations, and SANS standards.
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel or be site-based as required.
