Key Indicators / Success Criteria:
- Ensure that all MEP cost-related matters and submissions are reported to the Project Manager of our team, as well as the appropriate staff in the Client organization, in a timely manner.
- Achieve project team objectives in managing the MEP works efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Control
- Monitor MEP contract costs and expenditures to ensure adherence to the project budget.
- Collaborate with the Quantity Surveyor team to manage and control project finances effectively.
Contract Management
- Provide support to the client and project team on MEP contractual matters, including monitoring contractor performance.
- Ensure strict compliance with MEP contract terms and conditions.
- Exposure to handling post-contract projects for Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) and Special Airport Systems ideally in a consulting environment.
Claims and Variations
- Administer, review, and negotiate claims and variations related to the MEP aspects of the project.
- Manage the variation order and change request process efficiently, ensuring proper documentation and approvals are in order.
- Prepare, evaluate, and issue the monthly interim application for payment.
- Prepare, evaluate, and negotiate the variation orders with the contractor.
- Prepare and agree on final accounts with the contractor.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost reports for MEP components as required.
- Maintain organized and comprehensive cost control documentation, including correspondence, amendments, and approvals.
- Produce monthly cost reports, forecasts, and contract budget reports.
- Maintain registers of variations and claims.
Team Leadership
- Collaborate with a team of Client and Contractor’s Quantity Surveyors on-site, to fulfil Quantity Survey duties primarily focusing and contributing on MEP aspects.
- Oversee their daily activities, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Demonstrate and maintain commercial and technical knowledge and work closely with the technical staff to develop appropriate technique solutions for the project.
- Work also includes a work presentation to the Client and attending progress meetings.
- Demonstrate skills in managing project costs and budgets ideally in a client-facing role (not essential).
Communication and Collaboration
- Foster positive working relationships with various project stakeholders, including contractors, clients, and regulatory authorities.
- Participate in project progress and review meetings to ensure effective project coordination.
- The work also includes status and progress update presentations to the Client and attending progress meetings.
Reporting:
- Reports to the team Project Manager.
- Receives inputs and reports from various project stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, and the Project Quantity Surveyor team.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Preferably a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
- Proficiency in MEP cost control and financial management.
- Proven experience in MEP cost and contract management.
- Knowledge of construction contracts and principles, including familiarity with FIDIC contracts.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and precision.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic project environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel & Word, AutoCAD, and CostX software.
