We are looking for a part-time Quantity Surveyor to join a fast-growing residential construction company delivering high-quality homes across the Cape Winelands. Positioned as a critical commercial anchor, this site-based role is ideal for an experienced professional seeking meaningful, flexible work while remaining actively involved in the construction industry. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and site teams, the successful candidate will provide comprehensive commercial oversight across multiple residential builds, ensuring rigorous cost management, variation control, subcontractor payment administration, and accurate financial reporting.
This part-time position requires a dedication of 30 hours per week, structured from Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 14:00, and is based across site locations in Paarl and its surrounding areas.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Management & Risk Mitigation: Monitor project expenditures rigorously against approved budgets, compiling detailed cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and early warning assessments to flag commercial risks or cost overruns before they escalate.
Programme & Project Tracking: Evaluate physical site progress against contractual construction programmes, identifying potential delays and calculating their direct financial impacts in close collaboration with Construction Managers.
Subcontractor Valuation & Payment Administration: Measure completed subcontractor work physically on site, validating payment claims against pre-agreed rates and preparing accurate payment schedules for executive approval while maintaining structured supporting documentation.
Variation Order Governance: Identify, measure, price, and submit variation orders timeously, maintaining an up-to-date Variation Register and ensuring approved amendments are seamlessly incorporated into project costs and client claims.
Client Valuations & Progress Reporting: Prepare comprehensive monthly client valuations and compile professional project progress reports summarizing financial performance, programme variations, structural risks, and forward planning schedules.
LiveCost System Management: Act as the internal custodian of the LiveCost system, accurately setting up new projects, mapping budgets, managing cost codes and purchase orders, and continuously improving data integrity to provide reliable management information.
