The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing all costs related to building, civil, mechanical and electrical engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. The role involves minimizing the costs of a project while ensuring that the required standards and quality are met. The Quantity Surveyor will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
Key Accountabilities:
Cost Estimation and Budgeting:
Prepare detailed cost estimates for projects based on drawings, specifications, and other relevant documents.
Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring that all costs are tracked and reported accurately.
Tendering and Procurement:
Prepare tender documents and manage the tendering process, including evaluating bids and making recommendations.
Negotiate contracts with suppliers and subcontractors to secure the best possible terms.
Cost Control and Reporting:
Monitor project costs and provide regular reports to management on budget status, forecasts, and variances.
Implement cost control measures to ensure projects remain within budget.
Value Engineering:
Identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering throughout the project lifecycle.
Collaborate with design teams to optimize project designs for cost efficiency.
Contract Management:
Administer contracts and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
Manage variations and claims, ensuring that all changes are documented and agreed upon.
Site Visits and Assessments:
Conduct site visits to assess progress and ensure that work is being carried out according to specifications and standards.
Liaise with site managers and contractors to resolve any issues that arise.
Final Account Preparation:
Prepare final accounts for projects, ensuring that all costs are accounted for and that the final figures are agreed upon with clients and contractors.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
Professional membership with a recognized body (e.g., RICS, CIQS) is preferred.
Working Experience:
Minimum of [3-5] years of experience in quantity surveying or a related field, preferably within the engineering or construction industry.
Proven experience in managing costs for large-scale projects from inception to completion.
