Quantity Surveyor 


Location: Glasgow


An career development opportunity is available for a Quantity Surveyor to join the Galliford Try team within our Joint Venture ESD in Glasgow.


Joining a busy commercial team, the successful Quantity Surveyor will work on high value Scottish Water projects across the Central Belt, East of Scotland (up to Inverness) and the Islands. Collaborating across the Joint Venture and delivering at a high standard, this role is vital in tracking and forecasting expenditure in a fast paced and time sensitive environment. 


This role will give you exposure to NEC contracts in a Principle Contractor environment working on high value project with exposure to systems including CEMAR, Oracle and Unifer. 


 


What you will be doing:



  • Produce Subcontract documentation including negotiation of terms and conditions, prices, and programme.

  • Management of subcontract works packages including, interim assessments of the amount due and subsequent change management.

  • Produce and issue all commercial notices, to both the Client and Subcontractors, as required by the form of contract.

  • Manage change in a timely manner in accordance with the form of contract, including the production and submission of Compensation Event Quotations.

  • Produce, submit, and agree monthly applications, to the Client, in accordance with the form of contract.

  • Liaise with operational and engineering staff to ensure site records are kept to the standard required.

  • Produce and maintain a detailed ‘Cost to Complete’, tracking and forecasting expenditure, including detailed schedules of Subcontractor ‘liabilities’ and use of Oracle based cost analyses.

  • Interpret and critically evaluate expenditure reports produced by internal cost systems.

  • Completion of monthly Cost Value Reconciliation reports in accordance with schedule of accounting period end dates and deadlines

  • Attending weekly progress and early warning meetings with the client and subcontractors.

  • Apply the principles of ‘Doing the right thing’ in maximising value and profit.


 


About You:



  • Ideally you will have experience in Civil Engineering Environment working for a main contractor, with a sound knowledge of the NEC Conditions of Contract

  • Professional Qualification (e.g HNC/HND/Degree/Diploma) or equivalent

  • The ability to work independently as well as within a team is essential.

  • Experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors

  • Exposure on large single or multiple smaller schemes

  • Appreciation of standard forms of contract.

  • Strong IT skills including Excel, Word & Contractual and Cost Management Systems (CEMAR, Oracle, Unifier)

  • Good stakeholder management and communication capabilities.

  • Knowledge of construction processes.

  • Excellent time management skills, with ability to work to tight deadlines.

  • Ability to encourage and support other members of the commercial team

  • Professional qualification such as MCICES or MRICS, or working towards full membership
