Our client, a building construction company focused on commercial projects.


is looking for a dynamic Quantity Surveyor to join their team.

Duties & Responsibilities

Main purpose of the position:

Ensure the successful overall commercial completion of a contract, including maximisation of revenue, effective forecasting of project, cost calculations, controls and reconciliations, including associated payment procedures.


 


Key Performance Areas:



  1. Prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects based on architectural plans, specifications and site visits.

  2. Assist in the preparation of tender documents, including bills of quantities, specifications and contract conditions.

  3. Manage the procurement process, including sourcing materials and subcontractors, obtaining quotations and negotiating contracts to ensure best value for the project.

  4. Administer contracts, including assessing variations, valuing work done and preparing interim and final payments to contractors.

  5. Monitor project costs against budgets, identify areas of cost overrun and implement measures to control costs.

  6. Identify opportunities for value engineering to optimise project costs without compromising quality or functionality.

  7. Identify and assess project risks related to cost, schedule, and quality and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.

  8. Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.

  9. Assess and negotiate variations, claims and disputes with contractors and subcontractors.

  10. Prepare regular progress reports for stakeholders, including cost reports, cash flow forecasts and project schedules.

  11. Maintain regular communication with clients to ensure their expectations are met and address any concerns or issues promptly.

  12. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior quantity surveyors and other team members.

  13. Provide post-contract services such as final account settlement, defects liability assessments and project closeout.

  14. Conduct cost benchmarking exercises to compare project costs with industry standards and identify areas for improvement.

  15. Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Valid Driver’s licence


Desired Experience & Qualification

MINIMUM Requirements:


Experience:



  • 5 - 8 years’ experience as a QS.

  • ++ Experience with commercial and industrial building projects.

  • Estimating experience is advantageous.


Education:



  • Grade 12

  • BSc Quantity Surveying (Preferred)

  • NDip Quantity Surveying

Package & Remuneration

R540 000.00 - R600 000.00 p/a ctc
