Main purpose of the position:
Ensure the successful overall commercial completion of a contract, including maximisation of revenue, effective forecasting of project, cost calculations, controls and reconciliations, including associated payment procedures.
Key Performance Areas:
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects based on architectural plans, specifications and site visits.
- Assist in the preparation of tender documents, including bills of quantities, specifications and contract conditions.
- Manage the procurement process, including sourcing materials and subcontractors, obtaining quotations and negotiating contracts to ensure best value for the project.
- Administer contracts, including assessing variations, valuing work done and preparing interim and final payments to contractors.
- Monitor project costs against budgets, identify areas of cost overrun and implement measures to control costs.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering to optimise project costs without compromising quality or functionality.
- Identify and assess project risks related to cost, schedule, and quality and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
- Assess and negotiate variations, claims and disputes with contractors and subcontractors.
- Prepare regular progress reports for stakeholders, including cost reports, cash flow forecasts and project schedules.
- Maintain regular communication with clients to ensure their expectations are met and address any concerns or issues promptly.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior quantity surveyors and other team members.
- Provide post-contract services such as final account settlement, defects liability assessments and project closeout.
- Conduct cost benchmarking exercises to compare project costs with industry standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards throughout the project lifecycle.
