Quantity Surveyor - Civil

 

A Quantity Surveyor – Civil is responsible for managing the commercial and contractual aspects of civil construction projects to ensure effective cost control, accurate measurement, and financial efficiency. The role involves preparing quantity take-offs, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost estimates, valuations, and payment applications; monitoring project costs and budgets; evaluating variations and claims; managing subcontractor accounts; reviewing tenders and quotations; maintaining accurate commercial records; preparing cost reports and forecasts; and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, project specifications, and company policies.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost estimates, and material schedules for civil works.

  • Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documentation to identify scope and commercial requirements.

  • Prepare interim payment applications, progress valuations, and payment certificates.

  • Measure completed works and verify quantities against approved drawings and site records.

  • Monitor project costs, budgets, commitments, and expenditure to ensure effective cost control.

  • Prepare and evaluate variations, claims, extensions of time, and other contractual matters.

  • Review subcontractor quotations, interim claims, final accounts, and supporting documentation.

  • Assist with the preparation and evaluation of tenders and subcontract packages.

  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients on commercial matters.

  • Maintain accurate records of quantities, costs, variations, payments, and contractual correspondence.

  • Conduct regular site visits to verify progress, measurements, and completed works.

 

Candidate Profile:

 

  • Five to nine years of relevant experience in Quantity Surveying within the civil construction industry.
  • A degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Strong experience in quantity take-offs, BOQ preparation, and cost estimation.
  • Hands-on experience in project cost control, budgeting, and cost monitoring.
  • Experience in preparing interim valuations, payment applications, and final accounts.
  • Knowledge of handling variations, claims, and contractual matters.
