Duties & Responsibilities

Our client specialises in a wide range of professional services, providing comprehensive project management and consulting services in the business environment, while taking cognisance of the country's social development needs.  Is looking for a professional Quantity Surveyor.  Projects are mostly public sector developments like clinics, hospitals, student accommodation, community centres, office buildings, etc. so experience with the public sector processes is an advantage but not a prerequisite.
Reporting to: Architect & Senior Civil Engineer

Purpose of the Role:

  • Cost Management
  • Site Management
  • Subcontractor Management
  • Developing cost plans and estimates through the design phase, delivering updated cost plans at appropriate design milestones.
  • Providing commercial input to design optioneering and input into value engineering exercises.
  • Reviewing contractor and subcontractor pricing and leading negotiations on behalf of the client to drive fair contract prices.

Requirements:

  • Has a Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying degree 
  • Has been registered as a Professional Quantity Surveyor (PrQS) with SACQSP for at least 3 years 
  • Has a minimum of 5 years working experience with at least 3 years being after your registration as a PrQs.
  • Good knowledge and experience of Project Cost Management Systems.
  • WinQS software and DimensionX, MS Project and MS Office
  • Advanced level experience in Excel and high proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with with spreadsheets/Excel for Bills of Quantities
  • Clean Drivers license.
  • Willingness to travel within KZN is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage relationships with clients while maintaining profitability and productivity.
  • Plan, implement, and monitor annual budgets, scheduling expenditures, analyzing, and reporting on variances.
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures and KPI measures are developed, implemented, and monitored.
  • Manage rework campaigns, standardized fitments, and overall WIP management targets.
  • Ensure adherence to SHEQ and ISO standards, 5S, and Gemba principles.
  • Manage Workshop, Equipment, and Storage Yard maintenance.

Promote customer relations:

  • Maintain good relationships with external and internal customers and handle any customer complaints.
  • Promote interdepartmental cooperation and synergies.
  • Participate in daily morning meetings with customer management.
  • Review fitment quality as per standard operating procedures.
  • Support Contracts Manager to grow Technical Portfolio and find new business opportunities.
