Quantity Surveyor

Principal accountabilities:

• Contribute to the successful commercial outcome of construction projects.
• Assist the project surveyor in day-to-day QS activities to manage budgets.
• Assist in the preparation of cost plans, budgets, cashflow and cost reports as required
• Always seek to drive the best value in each procurement and appointment decision
• Assist the project surveyor to implement value engineering, recording results.
• Actively participate in all relevant project and design meetings to ensure that the best commercial outcomes are achieved. 
• Assist with the procurement of contract packages including producing tender documents, developing tender lists, pre-tender enquiries, receiving and analysing tender returns, negotiating terms and prices, producing orders etc.
• Attend precontract meetings with suppliers, producing notes of meetings.
• Help to maintain a log of design and subcontract changes with the focus on reducing overall impact.
• Attend site to monitor progress of works, assist in the preparation of valuations
• Complete any other tasks as the employer may deem necessary

Knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:

• An understanding of construction procurement, processes, and procedures.
• Knowledge of quantity take-offs.
• Understanding of JCT suite of forms and contract law.
• Degree educated in a relevant field.  Professional qualification is desirable but not necessary.
• A ‘can –do’ attitude with a willingness to challenge conventional thinking.  A pro-active, positive thinking, commercially minded approach with the ability to work at pace.
• Great attention to detail, enthusiastic, encouraging collaboration across teams and have a clear focus on cost and value for money.
• An effective verbal and written communicator.
• Financial and numerical skills including budget and cashflow management
• Negotiation skills
• IT literate (MS Word, Excel, Outlook etc)
• Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant construction related field.
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a commercial surveyor.
• Experience of successfully working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment
