Introduction

Our client is an impressive MEP contractor that has been established for over two decades and has executed many significant projects with global players across the built environment. Projects range from $500K to $10M+ USD and have included Hotels, Banks, Hospitals, Factories, Embassy and  Aiports. Their footprint spans across, Africa, the Americas, Central Asia and the Middle East.

This opportunity is to join the established Ghanian office which is key to their success throughout Africa.  They are looking for an engineer that is highly competent when it comes to estimating and navigating tenders accurately and efficiently.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Technical Analysis (tender documents, drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities)

• Technology Integration: Leverage 3D visualisation tools, BIM models, automated quantity takeoff software to enhance estimation accuracy and reduce bid preparation time

• Market Intelligence: Research & maintain comprehensive databases of current material costs, labour rates, and subcontractor pricing using digital procurement platforms and market analysis tools

• Value Engineering: Develop innovative cost-saving solutions & alternative technical approaches using the latest mechanical technologies + sustainable design practices

• Bid Preparation: Coordinate with technical teams to prepare comprehensive bid proposals, ensuring alignment between commercial competitiveness and technical feasibility

• Digital Transformation: Support the implementation of Procore and other industry-leading platforms, contributing to the continuous improvement of our estimation processes

• Client Engagement: Participate in pre-bid meetings, virtual presentations, and site visits, capturing data through mobile applications and presenting estimates professionally

Technical Knowledge

• Advanced proficiency in estimation software (Trimble, Procore, STACK, or similar platforms)

• Strong skills in AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks for quantity takeoffs and clash detection

• Expert-level Microsoft Excel skills for complex calculations and database management

• Experience with cloud-based collaboration tools (Microsoft Teams, Google Workspace, Procore)

• Understanding of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and mechanical services

• Knowledge of international standards (ASME, ASHRAE, British Standards) as applied in Ghana

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Bachelor degree in Quanity Surveying, Building Services Engineering, or related field

• Certification in AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM software is highly advantageous

• Minimum 3 years of proven experience in estimation within the construction industry

• Track record of successfully estimating projects valued at minimum $500K USD

• Experience with international projects and multi-currency estimating preferred

• Familiarity with West African market conditions, suppliers, and pricing dynamics

ADITTIONAL

• Comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and process piping

• Knowledge of sustainable and energy-efficient mechanical solutions, including chiller systems and heat recovery

• Familiarity with smart building technologies, IoT integration, and modern control systems

• Understanding of FIDIC contracts and international procurement practices

• Awareness of construction technology trends including prefabrication and modular systems
