Quantity Surveyor - Infrastructure & Commercial Advisory
Construction and Technical Recruitment27th August, 2026
An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Intermediate or Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a growing consultancy in Wellington.
This is a little different from the traditional QS consultancy role.
We're looking for someone who is technically strong and can get on with delivering the work, but who also enjoys dealing with people, building relationships and becoming part of the wider Wellington construction and infrastructure market.
You certainly don't need to be a salesperson. However, you should be comfortable meeting clients, attending industry events, developing your network and helping create opportunities as the Wellington business continues to grow.
The Role
Working as part of an experienced national team, you'll provide commercial and Quantity Surveying services across a varied portfolio of infrastructure, civil and property-related projects.
Depending on your experience, your responsibilities will include:
- Cost planning, estimating and budget development
- Cost control, forecasting and reporting
- Tender analysis and procurement advice
- Contract administration
- Progress claims and payment assessments
- Variations, claims and final accounts
- Commercial and project risk analysis
- Value management
- Client-side commercial advice
- Working closely with Project Managers, engineers, contractors and clients
- Supporting projects from early planning through construction and completion
About You
We're looking for a good, solid Quantity Surveyor who knows how to deliver.
You could be an established Intermediate QS ready for more responsibility, or a Senior QS looking for a position where you can have greater influence over the growth of a business.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- 5+ years' Quantity Surveying or commercial experience
- Consultancy, contractor or client-side experience
- A relevant Quantity Surveying or construction qualification
- Strong estimating and cost management skills
- Good knowledge of construction contracts and contract administration
- Experience across infrastructure, civil or commercial construction would be advantageous
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The confidence to deal directly with clients and senior stakeholders
- A practical and commercially minded approach
More Than Just Project Delivery
There is an important second part to this opportunity.
As the Wellington operation develops, we'd like this person to become increasingly involved in the local market.
That doesn't mean spending your week cold calling for work.
It's about getting out there, maintaining relationships, having coffees with clients, attending industry events, spotting opportunities and helping build the consultancy's profile across Wellington.
If you're someone who enjoys the people side of the industry and would like to develop those skills alongside your technical QS career, there is plenty of scope to do that here.
Why Consider It?
This is an opportunity to join a specialist consultancy with an established national capability but still have the chance to make a genuine impact locally.
You'll have access to experienced people across the wider business, exposure to interesting and technically challenging projects and the opportunity to develop beyond purely delivering QS work.
For an ambitious Intermediate, it could provide a pathway towards Senior QS and future leadership.
For an established Senior, it offers the opportunity to become an important part of the growth and development of the Wellington business.
If you're looking for a role where you can combine strong technical Quantity Surveying with clients, relationships and longer-term career progression, we'd be keen to hear from you.
