Introduction

Our client, a leading Group of Civil Construction Companies in Wellington, in the Boland area, wants to appoint an experienced and technically competent Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our civil construction team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the commercial and contractual management of civil construction projects, ensuring effective cost control, measurement, valuations and financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

The position requires a strong understanding of civil construction, contract administration and commercial management, together with the ability to work closely with Contract Managers, Site Agents, Engineers, clients and subcontractors.

Duties & Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the commercial and contractual aspects of civil construction projects.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate Bills of Quantities, measurements and cost estimates.
  • Measure work completed and prepare monthly progress valuations and payment certificates.
  • Monitor project costs, budgets and expenditure against approved contract values.
  • Prepare and manage variations, claims and contractual adjustments.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of extension-of-time and contractual claims.
  • Review and verify subcontractor measurements, valuations and payment claims.
  • Prepare subcontractor orders, agreements and commercial documentation.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and contractual compliance.
  • Reconcile quantities, costs and project expenditure.
  • Prepare commercial reports and provide management with accurate financial information.
  • Identify potential commercial risks and cost overruns and recommend corrective action.
  • Assist with tender pricing, cost estimates and analysis of tender documentation.
    • Review contract documentation, drawings, specifications and scope of work.
    • Maintain accurate project commercial records and supporting documentation.
    • Prepare and negotiate final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
    • Liaise with clients, consultants, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors on commercial matters.
    • Provide commercial guidance and support to Contract Managers and site teams.
    • Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual requirements.

Desired Experience & Qualification

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • Relevant Quantity Surveying qualification.
    • Professional registration with SACQSP will be advantageous.
    • Minimum 5–8 years' relevant experience in the civil construction industry.
    • Proven experience in the commercial management of civil construction projects.
    • Strong experience with measurement, valuations, variations, claims and final accounts.
    • Sound knowledge of construction contracts and contractual administration.
    • Experience with roads, earthworks, pipelines, bulk water, reservoirs, storm-water and/or municipal infrastructure will be advantageous.
    • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in relevant QS and commercial software.
    • Excellent Excel skills.
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and Bills of Quantities.
    • Valid driver's licence.
