Introduction

The QS Graduate will support the procurement and commercial teams in managing quantities, costs, and contractual documentation for SMPP (Structural, Mechanical, Platework, and Piping) construction projects. Based at the Head Office in Boksburg, this role provides assistance in quantity take-offs, cost analysis, supplier evaluation, and preparation of procurement documentation. The QS Graduate will gain exposure to commercial processes, project budgeting, and contract administration while developing practical experience in quantity surveying and procurement within a construction environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and procurement documentation for construction materials and services.
  • Support the review and analysis of supplier quotations, purchase orders, and contracts.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials, costs, and procurement activities to support budgeting and reporting.
  • Track project budgets, material usage, and variations under the guidance of senior QS or procurement personnel.
  • Assist in preparing monthly progress reports, cost reports, and financial documentation for management review.
  • Collaborate with procurement, project, and site teams to ensure alignment between project requirements and material deliveries.
  • Support contract administration and documentation, including subcontractor agreements and variation tracking.
  • Participate in supplier meetings, audits, and quality reviews as required.
  • Ensure all QS and procurement activities comply with company policies, contract requirements, and statutory regulations.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Safety Practices: Follow all company and site safety protocols when coordinating with project teams.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all QS and procurement activities comply with company policies, contract obligations, and South African regulations.

 

Work Environment:

  • Standard office hours at Head Office in Boksburg, with occasional coordination with project sites or suppliers as required.
  • Primarily office-based, with exposure to procurement and commercial processes in construction.

 

 

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree or National Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or related discipline.
  • 0–2 years of experience; recent graduates with internships in construction or procurement are encouraged to apply.
  • Basic understanding of construction contracts, BOQs, and cost control procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) and willingness to learn QS or procurement software.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work from Head Office in Boksburg, South Africa and coordinate with site and procurement teams.
