VSL Systems (UK) is on a growth trajectory and seeks an experienced Quantity Surveyor for our Civil Works / Recurrent Business team with projects scattered across the UK.

Are you ready to propel your career in civil engineering and infrastructure maintenance to new heights? We are currently seeking a skilled individual to join our team as a Civil Works Quantity Surveyor / Estimator.

In this role, technical prowess is just one aspect of success. We are looking for someone with a passion for innovation, a drive for problem-solving, and a commitment to excellence in civil works projects. From working on highways and street projects with traffic management considerations to executing bridge repairs including bearing and joint replacement, concrete repairs, drainage, and waterproofing, your expertise will be invaluable. Experience in post-tensioning would be exceptional and highly valued. This role offers a dynamic blend of technical expertise and strategic thinking, providing an opportunity for continuous learning and professional growth in the field of civil engineering and infrastructure maintenance.

Accountabilities and key tasks:

The Quantity Surveyor works together with the Business Development, the Methods team, and the Cost Control to achieve following goals:

▶ Completing Submissions and tenders from Pre-tender through to handover

▶ Ensuring timely delivery of finalized tenders

 


Operational tasks:

  •  Compare and analyse subcontractor and supplier quotation.
  • Prepare quotation enquiry to subcontractor and supplier.
  • Responsible for interim payment application, certifying sub-contractor’s payment, valuation of variation and final account settlement.
  • Provide advice to Project managers and site Engineers on contractual claims.
  • Monitor subcontractors’ performances.
  • Resolving disputes between contracting parties.
  • Quantity taking off.
  • Maintain awareness of the different building contracts in current use
  • Professional qualification and PC knowledge are advantageous.

 

Estimating tasks:

  • Reviewing the tendering and estimating process and coming up with cost effective solution.
  • Thoroughly review tender documentation and provide feasibility advice.
  • Prepare and submit tender queries and clarifications.
  • Develop bills of quantities and schedules of rates for tender applications.
  • Create detailed proposals that adhere to client guidelines and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards concerning health, safety, quality, and the environment.
  • Analyse technical, legal, and financial aspects to propose effective commercial strategies.
  • Participate in bid negotiations under the guidance of management.
  • Manage subcontract enquiries and review submissions for compliance.
  • Identify and pursue future business opportunities and potential partnerships.
  • Explore new markets and cultivate client relationships.

 

 


Essential and Desirable Criteria:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or simliar.
  • Minimum of 3 years' post-graduate experience in a relevant role.
  • Strong understating of civils/repairs works.
  • Enthusiastic with an eye for detail and the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a tactical and strategic mindset.
  • Profit-oriented with a collaborative approach.
  • Proficiency in English

 


Package Expectations:

  • Salary expected range between £50-60,000.
  • Benefits package including car/car allowance, health care, competitive pension.
  • Discretionary Bonus Scheme.
