Quantity Surveyor
Description

The Mechanical Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for providing quantity surveying, cost estimation, cost control, contract administration, and commercial management services for mechanical building services systems across multidisciplinary projects. The role requires close collaboration with mechanical engineers, project managers, contractors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered within budget while maintaining quality and compliance with WSP standards and procedures.



Responsibilities

Cost Planning & Estimation

  • Prepare preliminary cost estimates, detailed cost plans, and project budgets for mechanical services.

  • Develop Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and measurement take-offs from drawings, BIM models, and specifications.

  • Conduct cost benchmarking and cost analysis for mechanical building services.

  • Support value engineering initiatives to optimize project costs.

Quantity Surveying

  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, fuel systems, medical gas systems, and associated mechanical services.

  • Review design changes and assess their commercial impact.

  • Measure and verify quantities in accordance with industry standards and project requirements.

  • Prepare cost reports and project cost forecasts.

Contract Administration

  • Assist in preparation and evaluation of tender documentation.

  • Review contractor quotations and commercial submissions.

  • Support procurement activities and tender evaluations.

  • Assess variations, claims, and change orders.

  • Review monthly progress payments and contractor valuations.

Commercial Management

  • Monitor project budgets and expenditures throughout project lifecycle.

  • Identify cost risks and opportunities and provide mitigation recommendations.

  • Support project teams in managing commercial and contractual matters.

  • Prepare financial reports and management summaries for stakeholders.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Work closely with multidisciplinary design teams and project managers.

  • Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and clients on commercial matters.

  • Participate in project review meetings and cost workshops.

  • Support regional and international project delivery teams where required.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with company quality management procedures.

  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation.

  • Adhere to health, safety, environmental, and ethical standards.

  • Follow industry best practices and applicable international standards.



Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or quantity surveying.

  • Additional qualifications in Cost Management, Commercial Management, or Quantity Surveying are advantageous.

  • Membership or progress toward RICS, AIQS, IQSI, or equivalent professional body is preferred.

Experience

  • 5–12 years of experience in Mechanical Quantity Surveying or MEP Cost Management.

  • Experience in commercial buildings, data centres, healthcare, industrial, aviation, transportation, or infrastructure projects.

  • Experience working within engineering consultancy, contractor, or client organizations.

  • Exposure to international projects and standards is desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of Mechanical Building Services systems: 

    • HVAC

    • Plumbing and Drainage

    • Fire Protection Systems

    • Chilled Water Systems

    • Medical Gas Systems

    • Industrial Mechanical Services

  • Quantity take-off and BOQ preparation.

  • Cost estimation and cost planning.

  • Contract administration and variation assessment.

  • Knowledge of FIDIC and other standard forms of contract.

  • Familiarity with BIM-based quantity extraction is desirable.
