Responsibilities
In this full-time position, the selected candidate will play a vital role in the quantity surveying function, with a focus on the following key responsibilities:
- Quantity Surveying Duties: You will manage a range of quantity surveying tasks, which include developing project budgets, preparing detailed bills of quantities, formulating project estimates, and conducting tender evaluations. Additionally, you will create cost plans, assist in drafting contracts (primarily FIDIC), manage contracts throughout the project lifecycle, assess variations, and finalize project finances. Your expertise will be particularly relevant to building services projects.
- Policy and Procedure Compliance: You will adhere strictly to the established policies and procedures related to quantity surveying frameworks, construction codes, and technical standards. This includes maintaining communication and coordination protocols among project team members and ensuring accurate distribution of information and documentation regarding quantity surveying and contractual matters.
- Estimating Quantities and Costs: You will be responsible for accurately estimating the quantities and costs of materials required for various projects, ensuring that all estimates align with project requirements and budgets.
- Procurement and Contractor Management: Your role will involve procuring and vetting contractor quotations and packages. You will support the Senior Partner by advising clients on optimal procurement strategies, anticipated costs, and cash flow management.
- Payment Verification and Certification: You will carry out monthly verifications of applications for payment and issue precise payment certifications and valuations, including interim payment certificates.
- Variation Management: You will measure, assess, and submit variations as necessary, ensuring that all changes are documented and justified appropriately.
- Final Accounts Preparation: You will prepare, submit, and negotiate project final accounts, ensuring all financial aspects are accurately captured and agreed upon.
- Subcontractor Management: Your responsibilities will include managing and approving the monthly valuations and final accounts of subcontractors to maintain project financial integrity.
- Tender Documentation: You will prepare and compile tender and contractual documentation, facilitating the tender selection and appraisal process, while preparing recommendations for client approval.
- Collaboration with Professional Teams: You will liaise with various members of the professional team, assisting in the preparation of comprehensive tender reports and documentation to confirm adjustments to tender sums.
Requirements
- Educational Background: A degree in Quantity Surveying or Building Services Engineering with a specialization in quantity surveying is essential, along with a recognized professional qualification in the field. A minimum of several years relevant experience is required.
- Professional Membership: Ideally, you will be a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or possess an equivalent professional membership.
- Experience Across Various Sectors: A proven track record as a quantity surveyor in diverse projects such as residential, commercial, infrastructure, and hospitality is essential.
- Industry Knowledge: You should be well-versed in all relevant standards, legislation, and practices applicable to the construction industry in Malta.
- Driving License: A valid driving license is required for conducting site visits, performing valuations, and managing bills of quantities and surveys.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is required. Familiarity with BIM and other related design systems is an advantageous asset.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English are crucial for effective interaction with clients and project teams.
- Team Collaboration and Pressure Management: The ability to work under pressure while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams is vital.
