Senior Quantity Surveyor
Our client is a leading multi-disciplinary consultancy providing specialist expertise across project delivery, project controls, engineering management, commercial management, assurance and advisory services. They are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong mining industry experience to join their professional team in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town, Western Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing commercial and quantity surveying expertise across mining and engineering projects, from project initiation through to completion.

Duties & Responsibilities

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related relevant qualification (essential).
  • Minimum 8–10 years’ relevant Quantity Surveying experience.
  • Proven and substantial experience within the mining industry (essential).
  • Experience working on mining, minerals processing, infrastructure, engineering or capital projects.
  • Strong understanding of the full quantity surveying and commercial management lifecycle.
  • Experience with cost estimating, budgeting, cost control, forecasting and reporting.
  • Proven experience in BOQ preparation, measurement, valuations and variation management.
  • Experience with contract administration and commercial management.
  • Strong knowledge of construction and engineering contracts, with exposure to FIDIC, NEC, JBCC or similar contracts advantageous.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and relevant QS/commercial software.
  • Excellent analytical, numerical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Willingness to travel to mining and project sites when required.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Quantity Surveying & Commercial Management
  • Provide senior-level quantity surveying and commercial management support across mining and engineering projects.
  • Prepare and review cost estimates, budgets, forecasts and financial reports.
  • Develop and maintain Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost plans and project cost documentation.
  • Undertake measurement and valuation of work completed.
  • Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets and identify cost variances.
  • Provide accurate and timely cost reporting and forecasting to project stakeholders.
  • Assess and manage variations, claims and commercial risks.
  • Review contractor applications for payment and prepare payment certificates where required.
  • Assist with the preparation and evaluation of tenders, quotations and commercial submissions.
  • Conduct commercial evaluations and provide recommendations to project management and clients.
Contract & Project Management
  • Provide commercial input throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility and design through procurement, construction and close-out.
  • Assist with contract administration and ensure contractual obligations are effectively managed.
  • Monitor contractor performance and commercial compliance.
  • Identify potential commercial and contractual risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Support negotiations with contractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide expert QS/commercial input.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and internal project teams.
  • Provide professional commercial advice to clients and project management teams.
  • Present cost information, forecasts and commercial reports to senior stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, project controls, project management and other multidisciplinary teams.
