Introduction

Emcon Western Cape is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our project teams across Western Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the complete cost control, reporting, value generation process and profitability for multiple projects including the management of a team of QS’s at various levels. 

The position will be on a permanent basis.

Duties & Responsibilities

Pre Contract

  • Study contract documentation, tendered information and become familiar with contract BOQ
  • Insert Contract BOQ into CCS
  • Reprice subcontract packages and negotiate discounts (settlement, appointment, etc)
  • Reprice P&G and finalise savings with PM & CD
  • Identify most urgent appointments and any early purchasing requirements
  • Oversee appointment process by;
    • Ensuring documentation is complete
    • Checking compliance and goodstanding
    • Ensuring contract specific clauses are in place

Project Cost Control

  • Supervising team of QS’s at various levels
  • Compiling/ Overseeing monthly claims (Dependant on project size).
  • Overseeing payment process by:
    • Confirming measures
    • Signing off valuations
    • Issuing Certificates
  • Regularly visiting sites and ensuring work being performed is in line with measured BOQ
  • Identifying new or additional work on site and overseeing the pricing thereof
  • Ensuring quotes/ VOs are submitted promptly
  • Assist with preparation of extension of time claims and P&G compilation
  • Manage the Remeasurement of contracts and ensure that trades are completed timeously
  • Manage timeline between claim, valuation, invoice to payment
  • Manage labour only subcontract payments and contra charge process
  • Manage ordering, report on wastage and implement controls for better efficiency
  • Agree final accounts in consultation with CD and Senior PM
  • Preparing for cost report meetings and explaining variances to tender provisions

Desired Experience & Qualification

Academic Requirements

  • National Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management
  • 6-8 years of experience in Quantity Surveying and 2-3 years of experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor

Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • Computer literate in standard Microsoft packages - Outlook, Word, Excel, CCS & Buildsmart
  • Good understanding of all trades for the construction of residential/ commercial buildings in terms of construction methods.
  • Good understanding of different types of construction materials in terms of lead times/ availability, standard lengths, sizes, mixes, quantities, quantities delivered, colour, profiles, curing time, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent ability to lead and work within a team
  • Ability to interpret and understand architectural and engineering drawings, including the understanding of and bending schedules.
  • Prioritises and structures different tasks logically and efficiently and executes them accordingly
  • Competent in coordinating and delegating work. Follows up and ensures things get done on time
  • Attention to detail
  • Delivers work of a high standard
