The Site Quantity Surveyor (QS) for a facade and glazing fabrication company is responsible for managing all aspects of cost control, financial management, and contract administration on-site. This role ensures that projects are completed within budget, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards. The Site QS will collaborate closely with the project management team, site engineers, subcontractors, and clients, providing essential support to ensure the successful delivery of facade and glazing projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cost Management and Control

    • Prepare detailed cost plans, budgets, and financial forecasts for facade and glazing projects.
    • Conduct site measurements, take-offs, and material quantity calculations from drawings and specifications.
    • Monitor and control project costs, ensuring adherence to the approved budget and financial targets.
  2. Valuations and Payments

    • Prepare and submit accurate interim valuations and final accounts for project works.
    • Assess and certify subcontractor and supplier payment applications, ensuring compliance with contract terms.
    • Resolve payment disputes with subcontractors and clients, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
  3. Contract Administration

    • Administer and manage contracts, ensuring compliance with terms, conditions, and project specifications.
    • Prepare and review contract documents, including bills of quantities (BOQs), schedules of rates, and contract variations.
    • Manage variations, claims, and extensions of time, negotiating settlements and minimizing additional costs.
  4. Procurement and Subcontractor Management

    • Assist in the procurement of subcontractors, materials, and equipment, ensuring competitive pricing and quality.
    • Evaluate and award subcontractor packages, managing their performance and ensuring timely delivery of services and materials.
    • Maintain good working relationships with subcontractors, resolving any issues and ensuring compliance with project standards.
  5. Risk Management

    • Identify, assess, and manage potential risks to project costs and timelines, implementing mitigation strategies.
    • Maintain and update a risk register, monitoring risk factors throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Provide advice on risk allocation and ensure appropriate insurance and bonding are in place.
  6. Documentation and Reporting

    • Maintain accurate and comprehensive project documentation, including contracts, correspondence, variations, and financial records.
    • Prepare and submit regular cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial statements to project stakeholders.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices in facade and glazing fabrication.
  7. Quality Control and Compliance

    • Ensure that all work complies with quality standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements.
    • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to verify compliance with project standards and safety regulations.
    • Collaborate with the project team to implement quality control measures and continuous improvement initiatives.
  8. Team Collaboration and Support

    • Work closely with the site management team, providing support and guidance on cost-related issues.
    • Assist in the training and development of junior quantity surveyors and other site staff.
    • Participate in site meetings, providing insights and recommendations on cost management, project progress, and client requirements.
