Introduction

Murray & Roberts Cementation invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Quantity Surveyor to be placed in Tharisa Mine. The successful candidate will report to the Commercial Manager. The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

  • Effective measurement and monitoring of work completed to ensure payment for certificates are contractually met
  • Prepare and defend contractual claims
  • Track costs and align to production
  • Effective stakeholder engagement to ensure smooth workflows
  • Effective document control and accurate reporting within deadlines to ensure effective project management
  • Effective and proactive risk identification and mitigation
  • Effective self and team supervision in alignment with comapny values and leadership initiatives

Desired Experience & Qualification

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
  •         National Diploma or BSc in Quantity Surveying / BTech Quantity Surveying
  •         CCS knowledge [Preferred]
  •         JDE knowledge [Preferred]
  •         MS Office Proficient [MS Projects, Powerpoint, Word & Excel]
  •         Valid driver’s license

Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
  •         At least 5 years of experience working as a Quantity Surveyor
  •         Vast experience in construction, preferably in the mining industry
  •         Extensive knowledge of contracts (specifically FIDIC) and contract risk analysis
  •         Ability to rapidly determine key issues in any conflict/dispute
  •         Experience with administration of fixed rate and cost reimbursable contracts
  •         Demonstrated experience in preparing and defending contractual claims
  •         Strong working knowledge of risk allocation under FIDIC (Employer vs Contractor risks)
  •         Proven experience in Cost tracking aligned to production (cost per metre, cost per ton)
  •         Familiarity with Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for decline development and lateral development
