Our client is looking for a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor to oversee the financial and contractual performance of construction projects. This role will suit a seasoned QS who can manage the full commercial lifecycle, from subcontractor procurement and cost control through to valuations, claims and final account settlement.
The Role:
- Take ownership of project commercial performance from award to completion.
- Monitor budgets, expenditure, cash flow and project profitability.
- Lead subcontractor and supplier procurement and appointments.
- Negotiate commercial terms and manage subcontractor relationships.
- Prepare interim valuations, payment certificates and final accounts.
- Assess and manage variation orders and contractual claims.
- Manage EOT submissions and contractual matters under JBCC and NEC.
- Compile monthly cost reports, forecasts and commercial management information.
- Identify potential commercial risks and implement appropriate controls.
- Provide commercial advice to project managers and site teams.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting and compliance with internal procedures.
- Mentor Junior Quantity Surveyors and contribute to improved commercial processes.
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12.
- National Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying.
- At least 8-10 years' construction industry experience.
- CCS/Candy certification.
- Training in JBCC and NEC contracts.
- SACQSP registration is advantageous.
- Advanced understanding of construction methods, materials and industry practices.
- Strong contract administration and commercial negotiation experience.
- Demonstrated experience with valuations, variations, EOT claims and final accounts.
- Strong financial, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience using CCS/Candy, BuildSmart and QS software.
- Excellent communication, reporting and negotiation skills.
- Ability to provide technical and commercial mentorship to junior staff.
