Damon At Sons Construction (PTY) Ltd is seeking a highly capable Project Manager / Contracts Manager to oversee multiple Johannesburg sites and projects. This senior role requires a professional who can manage and coordinate Site Agents and Site Managers, ensuring contract compliance, accurate reporting, and successful project delivery. The position demands a balance of leadership and hands‑on involvement, with strong proficiency in MS Projects, CCS (Candy), and BuildSmart to drive transparent, defensible project planning and execution.

 

Role Overview - Construction Site Manager/Site Agent

Damon At Sons Construction (PTY) Ltd  is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient Construction Site Manager / Site Agent to oversee specific sites and projects in Johannesburg. Reporting directly to the Project Manager / Contracts Manager, this role requires a professional who can manage day‑to‑day site operations, ensure compliance with contractual and quality standards, and deliver accurate reporting. The successful candidate must combine strong leadership with hands‑on involvement, utilizing MS Projects, CCS (Candy), and BuildSmart to maintain defensible documentation and transparent project control. Extensive warehousing construction experience from initial ground‑up build through to final handover is essential. Candidates must demonstrate a proven track record in managing warehouse projects end‑to‑end within the construction environment.

 

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Senior Quantity Surveyor

  • Department Leadership
    • Manage and oversee the QS department, ensuring alignment with company objectives and project requirements.
    • Provide mentorship, guidance, and performance oversight to junior and intermediate QS staff.
    • Establish departmental standards, reporting protocols, and compliance with JBCC and other contractual frameworks.
  • Hands‑On Quantity Surveying
    • Prepare, review, and finalize Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost estimates, and tender documentation.
    • Conduct site measurements, valuations, and progress certifications personally when required.
    • Administer contracts, including variations, claims, and final accounts.
    • Ensure accuracy and defensibility of all cost reporting and project documentation.
  • Professional Reporting & Communication
    • Deliver clear, structured, and contract‑compliant reports to management and clients.
    • Maintain transparent communication channels with project managers, site teams, and external stakeholders.
    • Present financial and progress updates in a professional, defensible manner.

 

Project Manager/Contracts Manager

  • Project & Contract Oversight
    • Lead and manage multiple construction projects across Johannesburg.
    • Ensure compliance with JBCC and other contractual frameworks.
    • Oversee Site Agents and Site Managers, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance monitoring.
    • Maintain accountability for project budgets, schedules, and quality standards.
  • Hands‑On Project Management
    • Personally engage in project scheduling, monitoring, and reporting using MS Projects or similar tools.
    • Utilize CCS (Candy) and BuildSmart for cost control, subcontractor reconciliation, and project financial management.
    • Conduct site visits, progress reviews, and ensure accurate reporting of milestones.
    • Manage variations, claims, and contractual correspondence with professionalism and clarity.
    • Ensure defensible documentation for client and stakeholder reporting.
  • Professional Reporting & Communication
    • Deliver structured, contract‑compliant reports to management and clients.
    • Maintain transparent communication channels with site teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
    • Present project updates, risks, and solutions in a professional, defensible manner.

 

Construction Site Manager/Site Agent

  • Site Management & Coordination
    • Oversee daily site operations, ensuring adherence to project schedules, safety standards, and quality requirements.
    • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and site teams to achieve project milestones.
    • Implement instructions from the Project Manager / Contracts Manager and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Technical & Hands‑On Execution
    • Use MS Projects to monitor and report on site progress and scheduling.
    • Apply CCS (Candy) and BuildSmart for cost tracking, subcontractor reconciliation, and site‑level financial reporting.
    • Conduct site measurements, valuations, and prepare progress claims.
    • Ensure accurate documentation of variations, delays, and site instructions.
  • Reporting & Communication
    • Provide structured, contract‑compliant reports to the Project Manager / Contracts Manager.
    • Maintain transparent communication with site teams, consultants, and stakeholders.
    • Present site updates, risks, and corrective actions in a professional manner.

 

Desired Experience & Qualification

Requirements - Senior Quantity Surveyor

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in construction QS roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of JBCC contracts and South African construction industry standards.
  • Proven ability to balance departmental oversight with hands‑on execution.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and reporting skills.
  • Proficiency in CCS (Candy) and BuildSmart software for cost management, BOQ preparation, and subcontractor reconciliation.
  • Advanced Excel and MS Project skills.

Extensive warehousing construction experience covering ground‑up builds through to final handover will be considered a strong advantage
